Providing choice in addition recovery state-wide is a tall order, so we can use all the volunteers we can get!
We need:
- Meeting facilitators. Anyone can facilitate a meeting after taking an online training course. You do not need to be a professional or be in recovery. You just need to know how to run a meeting, get the participants talking about the issue at hand, keep the discussion on track, and teach a tool from the SMART Recovery toolbox when one is appropriate.
- Mentors. Most of our facilitators are not addiction recovery professionals, and can use professionals mentors.
- Participants. We need to get the word out so that more people can try SMART Recovery.
- Venue organizers & providers. One of the hardest parts of starting a meeting is to find a good place to hold it. Libraries often close in summer, or close too early during the week. Treatment facilities can be hard to get in and out of. We need volunteers to find places to meet. If you have a good location, please let us know.
- Publicity. We need more people to know we’re here, so we need more people to help get the word out.
- Hosts. A meeting host just guides a discussion of a topic related to addiction. There’s no need to know about the SMART Recovery tool set. If a facilitator cannot get to a meeting, having a trained host present can help everyone get more out of turning up.
