New Year Checkup

The New Year is a good time to take stock. After you have checked your smoke detector batteries:

If you’re making New Year resolutions, fill in a change plan worksheet. You can use the tools of SMART Recovery to plan and implement many changes in your life.

Saturday morning meetings over the holidays

Our Saturday morning meetings are usually held at the Wilson Branch of the New Haven Free Public Library.  The library will be closed on December 26 and January 2, so we have temporarily moved the meetings to the Happiness Lab, 756 Chapel Street (the same location as our Wednesday night meetings). We will be back at the Wilson Branch Library on Saturday, January 9, 2016.

Online mindfulness course

At SMART Recovery meetings, mindfulness is often cited (along with positive thinking, exercise, meditation, yoga, martial arts, etc.) as a way of dealing with urges and achieving a happier life.
Monash University (Australia’s biggest university) will be running a free MOOC on “Mindfulness for Wellbeing and Peak Performance”, starting on September 14.
It runs for six weeks and requires around 2 hours work per week:

This may be a good way to try out mindfulness from the comfort of your own computer.

August meetings added at Wilson Branch Library

As soon as we announced that we’d held our last New Haven meeting until September, Richard went ahead and arranged to hold meetings in August at the Wilson Branch of the New Haven Free Public Library system. It’s a few blocks from our usual home at the Grove, right behind the Yale-New Haven Hospital at 303 Washington Avenue. There’s free parking in the library lot.

We’ll be holding meetings from 10 AM to 11:30 AM on all five Saturdays in August.
